Thanksgiving Day in Ivan Duknović Primary School
Thanksgiving Day
We were preparing for Thanksgiving for about two months. We had to collect clothes, caps, hats and shoes and buy groceries. The teacher said that we could easily find everything but not the pumpkins. But that was not a problem because my father grow pumpkins and squashes. The teacher was very happy because she could bake a traditional pumpkin pie.
That day finally came! We looked like original Puritans. The girls were wearing dark skirts and tops and white aprons and caps. We looked very interesting.
In the morning we started cooking some special food such as roast turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. There was a lot of work but it was fun.
After cooking we went to the classroom. There we played some games and watched a presentation but we also learnt a lot about Puritans and their way of life.
In the end we had a real Puritan feast. We ate their specialities and it was great. Our guests were the headmaster, the pedagogue and the school psychologist as well as our Indian friend called Squanto.
The reason why we prepared the feast is Thanksgiving which is celebrated throughout the USA on the fourth Thursday in November. On that day the Puritans had their feast with the local Wampanoag Indians because they survived harsh winter with the help of those Indians.
Thanksgiving in our school was interesting and unusual. This is the best way of learning. Students learn better and they are happier. Teachers should teach like this. It was fantastic! I really enjoyed it.

SPECIAL THANKS TO MARINELA'S FATHER, MR MARIN STOJAN WHO GENEROUSLY GAVE US SOME PUMPKINS, SQUASHES AND SWEET POTATOES. HE GROWS ORGANIC FOOD SO THE PUMPKINS WERE NOT ONLY DELICIOUS, THEY WERE HEALTHY AS WELL. WE SAW DIFFERENT KINDS OF PUMPKINS AND SQUASHES. SOME OF US SAW THE SWEET POTATOES FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Thanksgiving Day
On Thanksgiving Day we came to school dressed as Puritans. First we talked about their history and the way of life. The Pilgrim Fathers set off from Plymouth, a town in England in 1620. The name of the ship was 'the Mayflower'. They landed in today's Massachusets. The first winter was harsh but they survived. The local Indians taught them to hunt, grow corn and hunt wild turkeys. Five of our girl classmates were cooking in the kitchen. We ate roast turkey with gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and corn bread. The pudding was pumpkin pie. Before meal we prayed and then we started to eat. It was delicious!

Thanksgiving
We celebrated Thanksgivng in our school. I learnt a lot about Puritans and Pilgrim Fathers. My classmates were dressed as Puritans.
We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It was delicious! There was enough food for all of us. We ate a lot a nobody was left hungry. It was great!

DELICIOUS PUMPKIN PIE WAS SMELLING SWEET
Some students wanted the recipes for gravy, some for cranberry sauce, some wanted to know why was the turkey so tender but most of us wanted the pumpkin pie recipe.
Thanksgiving Day
Two months ago my class and I decided to organise a Thanksgiving Day feast. We all prepared for this. Our teacher had tried all the recipes at home. We made clothes and costumes so we could look like Puritans. Some girls were sewing the caps and aprons themselves. My friend Ivan was Squanto, the Indian.
And that day finally came. It was the fourth Thursday of November.
I was so excited and I could' not wait to come to school. When I came to school my friend Ivana and I helped the teacher and the school cook to make the pumpkin pies. We used butternut squashes. They were the best.
Then my schoolmates Barbara, Marinela and Petra helped preparing roast turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce.
After that we larnt something about Puritans and we played some games.
Later the girls set the table and waited for the food to be done. Soon we sat at the table and started praying. The headmaster, the pedagogue and the school psychologist came to our feast. We all started eating the food which was pretty unusual. It was nice to taste new things. We liked some of them but some others were not that nice. I am not very fond of cranberry sauce.
It was a very unusual and interesting event.
If you have a chance to try something new, do it! It is fantastic.

EVERYONE LOVED THEM. SOME PEOPLE COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT PUMPKIN CAN BE SO DELICIOUS. THEY SAID THEY TASTE LIKE APPLES. EVERYONE WAS REALLY SURPRISED.

Thanksgiving
We were all dressed in black with some white details. Our teacher taught us something about Pilgrim Fathers and their feast. We also learnt about Thanksgiving today.
In 1863 Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday. Wampanoag Indians helped the Puritans who arrived in America on their ship called the Mayflower. They taught them how to fish, catch wild animals and many other things that helped The Puritans to survive. They wanted to thank The Indians for everything they did for them so they invited the Indians to a feast.
They had a big dinner with lots of dishes: turkey, meat, fish, corn and fruit. That feast lasted for three days.
We wanted, at least we tried to look like Puritans. Some girls and our English teacher cooked for us. We had a really nice Thanksgiving. We had roast turkey with gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, corn bread and pumpkin pie. It was great, we were having fun.
The food was great, everyone looked great but the most important thing is that we have learnt many things.

Thanksgiving Day
Today all Americans celebrate Thanksgiving with their families. In my school my friends, my teacher and the school cook celebrated together. We ate the same food that the Puritans once had enjoyed.
I enjoyed a lot because I was the Indian. The pedagogue asked me some questions – how did I help the Puritans, how do I grow corn and so on. I am very happy!
